La Miramar, which means view to
the sea, enjoys a unique location at the mouth
of Chocolate Hole Harbor, on the tranquil east
side of the harbor.
The fantastic view sweeps to the
south and west and provides all day sun. There
are no houses on the south side (the master
bedroom side) of La Miramar, and there is only 1
neighbor on the north side, so this remains a
very quiet, peaceful and semi-private location.
One of the features that makes this home lovely
and distinctive is that it sits 25 feet from the
waters edge. At times it feels like you're
almost in the water and you experience all the
wonderful sights, sounds and sensations of a
tranquil seaside villa.
The waters below your decks are
calm and crystal clear and offer very good
snorkeling, while the small sand beach at
Chocolate Hole is a short walk.
Cruz Bay is a 5-10 minute drive
on paved roads, while the restaurants, beach and
spa at the Westin Resort is an easy 5-minute
drive.
This is a large (3200 square
feet), centrally air-conditioned, 3 bedroom
villa that has the kitchen, living room, dining
room, 2 bedrooms/baths, cool pool and decks on
the upper level and a separate 1-bedroom
apartment (800 sq ft) on the lower level.
The cool pool and pool deck are
on the very private south end of the villa and
are accessed from the master bedroom or from the
living room. Stairs off the pool deck lead to
the water.
The 40 feet long great room has a
wall of screened sliding glass doors that look
out at the picturesque water views and open to
let the soft breezes caress you. Off the great
room is a second tiled deck equipped with a
dining table and chairs, lounges, and a gas
barbeque grill.
The kitchen is located in the
middle of the villa so the chef can both cook
and entertain. Outside the kitchen is a
courtyard with a wonderful hand-painted sunset
mural.
The two large bedrooms on the
upper level are located on both ends of the
villa, thereby insuring excellent privacy, and
on the lower level is a very private and cozy
apartment with a living room, small kitchen and
a bedroom.
In the middle of the house is a
fantastic kitchen. Large, open and filled with
mahogany cabinets, marble and granite
countertops and lots of kitchen gadgets. There
is a vintage Jenn-Air stove that sautés in no
time and a wet bar with counter seating for 4.
The living/dining great room is
divided into three areas: teak dining room table
(seating 4 to 6) with fun bamboo/wicker chairs,
living area, and a comfortable TV seating area.
Throughout La Miramar are
gorgeous, hand-crafted mahogany cabinets. The
bathrooms, kitchen, master bedroom, stereo area
in the great room, and a large desk off the
kitchen all have mahogany built-ins, some with
beveled glass doors.
The mahogany is a nice contrast
to the white walls, vaulted ceilings, large airy
rooms, eclectic artwork, mosaic tables, and
marble floors.
The lower level living area also
has cable TV and a 12' tall glass wall that
creates a bright and cheerful space with
marvelous views. Sliding glass doors open to a
small patio.
The very private master bedroom
suite has lots of windows and doors facing the
harbor. A king size four-poster mahogany bed
sets up the room perfectly.
The master bath has two separate
vanity areas (his and hers) and a shower with a
great water view.
Behind the vanities is a twin bed
that can be used for a small child or other
guest, plus a laundry area.
On the north side of the house is
the second bedroom suite (king bed). This is a
large room (19' x 13') with a walk-in closet, a
daybed for a child and a remodeled bathroom with
a mosaic tiled vanity. Sliding glass doors offer
a small water view and a balcony with a hammock.
The 3rd (lower level) bedroom has
a 21 foot wall of screened windows that face the
harbor and a marble tiled bath, plus a washer/dryerJust
outside the master bedroom and bath is another
courtyard area with tropical plants and a small
"cool pool" steps from the water's edge.
The "cool pool" has been hand -
tiled and is just large enough to sit, relax,
and cool off in. Off the pool are steps down to
the beach area that leads you to the "big pool."
Not a sand beach, but there is a
very private area right on the water's edge with
lounge chairs and a very rocky entry into the
water (not for the faint of heart). You'll love
this beach area; it's very quiet and private and
you can watch the sailboats and fishing boats go
in and out of Chocolate Hole.
For those guests more inclined to
a sand beach, there is the public Chocolate Hole
beach just a few minutes walk from La Miramar.
Either way the snorkeling is great in Chocolate
Hole, lots of big rock and coral formations and
colorful fish and lobster.
Although La Miramar was built in
the early 1990's, it was a one-owner home that
was never rented and was always well maintained.
In February of 2006 the
lower bedroom/apartment became available and La
Miramar is now a 3-bedroom villa that sleeps 6-8
persons.
The lower apartment (3rd bedroom)
is not a separate rental and can only be rented
along with the entire house.
With its marble floors, custom
mahogany cabinetry and exceptional location,
Miramar was designed to be an elegant seaside
villa. Elegant it is, but the white walls,
abundance of glass, unique artwork and central
a/c also make this a bright, cheerful and
comfortable home. What really sets La Miramar
apart is its serene, lovely and semi-private
waterfront setting.
By itself Miramar is a very
romantic home that makes a great honeymoon
hideaway or a superb home for couples or for 1-2
families.
La Miramar is located about 5
minutes from Cruz Bay, and 10 minutes from the
north shore beaches. If you want to really rela-a-a-a-x
in a tranquil location, or get active in or on
the water, La Miramar is a great choice!
